Wakizashi is a Dagger in Elden Ring. The Wakizashi scales primarily with Strength and Dexterity and is a good Weapon for short range melee combat. It initially starts with the Quickstep skill, which excells at both evasion, and providing openings for follow up attacks.
Short sword with a tempering pattern on the blade. A weapon unique to warriors of the Land of Reeds. Afflicts targets with blood loss.
These swords are considered auxiliary weapons. Yet, one man is known to wield this weapon in his left hand while using a full-sized katana in his right. A demonic swordsman known only as Okina.
Elden Ring Wakizashi Notes & Tips
- Weapon Skill: Quickstep
- This weapon can be infused with Ashes of War.
- Wakizashi can be upgraded by using Smithing Stones
- Causes Blood loss Buildup: (38)
- Does NOT powerstance with daggers other than a second Wakizashi.
- Can be powerstanced with Katanas or a second Wakizashi.
- Uses the normal katana powerstance moveset, even if powerstanced with another Wakizashi.
- Like all powerstanced weapons, L1 (left hand attack) attacks with both weapons and L2 (weapon skill) uses the right-hand weapon skill.
- This only works with the Wakizashi in the left hand. Cannot powerstance with a katana on the left and a Wakizashi on the right.
- When used as part of a powerstance, the Wakizashi uses a separate set of attack ids when powerstanced with a katana in mainhand, making its damage output roughly comparable to an equally leveled left-handed Uchigatana.
- This leads to it getting a 115, 127, 115, 141 motion value chain instead of a 90 100 90 110 motion value chain.
- Advantages over using a second katana:
- Able to equip Ash of War: Parry. When equipped with Parry, L2 will use the left-hand parry instead of the right-hand Katana's skill.
- The powerstance L1 combo consumes roughly 20% less stamina.
- Disadvantages over using a second katana:
- Shorter than all even the shortest katana (Serpentbone Blade), resulting in its attacks missing regularly if not close to an enemy.
- If power-stanced with itself, its power-stance moveset is slower than the normal dagger moveset, resulting in slower status buildup.
- It's difficult to tell if this is actually a Wakizashi or a Tanto as comparing two broad categories of Japanese short swords from different time periods can yield varying results. However, this isn't the only short sword to have a dagger moveset, with the other one being the Cinquedea.
- Sell Value: 100.
- NOTE: As of Patch 1.08, the speed and distance of some attacks has been increased and the recovery time has been reduced.
- NOTE: As of Patch 1.09, the scaling values of this weapon were changed. Please refer to the Upgrades Table of this weapon below.
